A Blueprint of a building is a series of drawing showing a layout of the parts of the building: the rooms, their sizes and shapes, doors and windows, and details that would otherwise take thousands of words to communicate to a reader. It conveys technical details to its readers.

 

Reading a blueprint for the time is a great learning experience.

 

Blueprint comprises of lines, symbols, numbers and few words.

 

Architect – Responsibility to develop promoters ideas and conveys it to draftsman. Draftsman prepares the blueprint.

 

Nowadays, computer and CADD are used to prepare blueprint.

 

Construction Document: Blueprint and written document.

 

 

 

Reasons:

·         Basic talking point between owner and architect.

·         Detailed information to contractors

·         Plumber takes help

·         Managers tool

·         For renovation, refurbishing and redecorating

·         Manpower requirements

·         Energy management.

 

  Types of Blueprint:

 Plan views:

·         Most Common of all

·         Seeing a room from top

·         Primary purpose is to show layout

·         It describes about electrical outlets, security alarm system requirements, determination of HVAC

Elevation views:

·         Drawing a picture of building while standing outside it.

·         Details about exterior

·         Percentage of glass in windows, types of windows, etc

·         Orientation of wall,

·         Balcony areas

Detail views:

·         Crucial communication between architect and builder

·         It can be combination of two distinct blueprints

·         Interior walls description

·         Location of permanent assets or equipment

Perspective views and models:

·         Most impressive technique

·         Three dimensional views

·         Dressed up by showing tree location, parking zones, sidewalks, etc.

·         Onlookers visualise about surroundings and buildings

Section views:

·         Vertical or horizontal cutaways of the building

·         Material used in construction

·         Thickness of building

Mechanical views:

·         Mechanical and electrical systems description

·         System of air-conditioning

·         Plumbing

·         CCTV

·         Fire-safety

Plot and survey views:

·         Registered surveyors

·         Legal boundaries

·         Required for building permits issuance.
